Have you seen Swedish House Mafia’s video for their first official song “One” yet? It’s a fun video that captures the energy of the song and shows it in a way that we can all love & appreciate – breakdancers & sexy women.
But what really makes this video stand out is the little synth/keyboard that is used!
The synth/keyboard is the OP-1 by Teenage Engineering. This little synth was rumored into existence back in March of 2009. Soon after a video displaying it (in a display case of all places) at Frankfurt Musikmesse 2009 appeared in April 2009. It appeared again this year at NAMM 2010 with numerous writers praising it.
Well, where did it come from? Whats the specs behind it? How much is it?
Teenage Engineering is a small outfit out of Sweden and it appears that this will be their bread and butter.
It’s battery-powered, 6 channels, 4 tracks, comes with sound effects & filters built-in, and looks like it’ll be available for under $1000. The best feature of it though is its “virtual tape” where you can record, playback, & splice what you’ve recorded.
If I could get my hands on one of these (for test purposes only, of course) I will!
It’s supposed to be released later this year/early 2011.
Check some of the demo videos below to see this thing in action.
I wonder if Swedish House Mafia used it to create the pattern at the beginning of the song?
As well, did anyone notice the slight towards a famous House producer towards the end?
