This is one blog post that’s been long over due! If you follow me on Twitter, you’d know that I talk about him & Moombahton quite a bit.
Now if you don’t know much about Moombahton, or you didn’t click the link above, here’s a quick recap on what it is.
Moombahton was created by Dave Nada (of Nadastrom fame) was DJing his cousin’s high school homecoming skipping party back in the Fall of ’09. What he did was slow down Afrojack’s remix of Chuckie & Silvio Ecomo’s “Moombah” to 108 beats per minute. And just like that folks is how a sub-genre was born.
Now there are many Moombahton producers out there but none are as prolific as Munchi. Munchi was already working on Bmore, Kuduro, Baile Funk, & Reggaeton tracks so it was just natural for him to cross over to Moombahton.
The track that got me hook was his remix for Steve Stark’s “Git ‘Em”. I find this track so infectious that I could (and have) listen to it on repeat for copious amounts of time. Steve Starks – Git Em (Munchi Kuduro Rmx) by Munchi
After hearing this track I had to get more so I started to do research and saw that he puts out about an EP’s worth of music almost every month on his blog.
Ever since he sent some of his works to Dave Nada in the Spring of 2010, Munchi has been working on remixes for quite a few acts (Bassanovva, M.I.A. come to mind). As well he’s been working alongside the likes of Diplo (which means nothing but good things).
I wish him all the success and hopes he comes to Toronto soon!
