Violca Mansion Barletta

If you’re from Toronto and don’t know who any of the names in the title are, then you’re missing out.

I first heard of Mansion in November 2008 when I saw them open for The Bloody Beetroots at Wrongbar (shout out to Let’s Go To War as well for opening the show). To me they were complete unknowns but the crowd was rocking hard to the tracks they were playing and soon so was I.

I first came across his music at a bar.

I was over at Beaver in West Queen West in downtown Toronto just listening to new music. The DJ dropped this song and I was completely enthralled by the Italo-disco sound (I really like Nu Disco). I asked him who it was and have been playing the song “Like Some Dream (I Can’t Stop Dreaming)” ever since.

He does of course have other really great songs!

Oldie But A Goodie : Edwin Birdsong

Nov 21, 2009   //   by DJ Kid Tronic   //   Video  //  No Comments

Edwin Birdsong was known for his experimental funk/disco music. While he never really achieved mainstream success he did gain a fan base. His two best known songs are “Cola Bottle Baby” and “Rapper Dapper Snapper”.

Whenever I play a 70′s set I’m sure to play “Cola Bottle Baby” as everyone can tell that it is the sample used in Daft Punk’s “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger”.

As well, Gangstarr sampled “Rapper Dapper Snapper” for their song “Skillz”

Check out the Edwin Birdsong originals below
