Reprise: Inspired by World MasterCard Toronto Fashion Week

I was approached by Only My Musings about the idea of putting together a mix inspired by the World MasterCard Toronto Fashion Week 2012 and thought it was a great idea. Also featured on the mix is the lovely and talented Island Besos, who does makeup for the who’s who of the Toronto scene. This was a fun project to work on and both of them are great people.

Check the press info & listen to the mix below!

Track Of The Moment: Treasure Fingers & Malente – Crusaders

Check out the official video for the title track from the “Crusaders” EP by Treasure Fingers & Malente! This 2 track EP will be released on Defected Records on Feburary 25th.

Both songs are straight funky Disco club bangers. It’s a short video but I love the song. I like the second track of the EP “Au Revue” a little more (can be heard during the credits at the end of the video).

Track Of The Moment: Frank Ocean – Thinking About You + Remixes

I’ve been liking this track for a while now, and although it was only originally a reference track for another artist I think he should really get a video done (maybe by the same people who did The Weeknd’s “What You Need” ?). Nonetheless this song is a banger. If you still haven’t heard it, listen to it here.

SBTRKT recently put out his UK Bass edit of the track and it puts a nice spin on it with the church organ like-synths.

And lastly, check out this remix by the sister duo from New Zealand MayaVanya

The Weeknd – Thursday [Mixtape]

For those who were under a rock (or were asleep), last night The Weeknd released his highly anticipated mixtape “Thursday” via his website (which subsequently crashed as everyone and their mama was trying to download). The 9 song opus continues to showcase his unique & mysterious ways, as demonstrated on the critically acclaimed “House Of Balloons”. This mixtape sonically & lyrically is pushing the limits of R&B. but to be honest I don’t hear anyone complaining. My favourite tracks from his latest offering are “The Zone”, “Gone”, “Rolling Stone”, and “Thursday”.

Just in case the website isn’t working, you can download the mixtape here. Below check out “The Zone” featuring Drake

Track Of The Moment: Bart B More – Cry Baby feat. AC Slater

Don’t you just love it when music is relentless unforgiving ? That’s how I’m feeling about the new Bart B More EP “The Bass” that’s out on Secure Recordings.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Bart B More’s other work as well but I find that this EP has a little more of a darker tone but still gives the club something to bang to. Out of the 2 tracks on this EP, this one is my favourite (the other one is good too). It’s thick and loud but doesn’t go over board with the synths. Check it out and buy the EP!

Track Of The Moment: Beatface – We Don’t Need To Pretend

Back in September 2010 DJ Lissa Monet invited me to a listening party for a new Toronto singer/producer duo by the name of Beatface & their EP entitled “Amy”. Although Ty Harper of City On My Back wanted to fight me outside for saying Shad’s “Rose Garden” was boring (haha), it was an overall good time. Each of us who attended the listening party received a copy of the EP and were told we could do whatever we wanted with it.
