Back To Vinyl – The Office Turntable

Well this is a great marketing technique to get more people to listen to your newly-released single or music (I have my own little trick and if you follow me on Instagram you’ll know what it is).

So to get Boris Dlugosch’s latest single into the right hands they decided to mail out vinyl that works in conjunction with an app so that people and listen to the tracks. Yes it’s a gimmick but I could see this working much more than using traditional CDs. Most people throw away promotional CDs (think back to walking around after partying and someone gave you a CD of their latest music). His latest single isn’t played in the video though, as the songs played are both rather old.

Way to go Kontor Records for thinking outside of the box!

Meet Stanley

I thought this was pretty cool. Meet Stanley

The people behind Digital Kitchen took a former player piano and turned it into a lean, mean, request taking machine.

His debut appearance was at the 2012 edition of the Capitol Hill Block Party in Seattle, Wasgington. People (at the event and around the world via live stream) were able to tweet a song to Stanley and it would play it! Of course there’s much more behind the scenes, so check out the video and try tweeting Stanley yourself.

H?SHTAG$ – Don’t Call It #PostDubstep

If you didn’t know by now, Red Bull Music Academy has always had a pulse with what goes on in the Indie/Underground music world. In addition to other video series their YouTube channel, they’ve started a new  series called Hastags which cover various facets of the Indie music scene. This is episode #2 in the series titled “Don’t Call It Post Dubstep” which covers music that has come out of the UK scene that was birthed from Garage & 2 Step but isn’t Dubstep (although people like to relate it to Dubstep). So far this is my favourite episode of Hashtags – Check it out

Dyskograf

This is pretty dope!

As you see, Dyskograf is an optical sequencer that translates the markings made on the rotating paper disc into music via a fixed camera. It was created by French designers Jesse Lucas, Erwan Raguenes and YRO.

It’s an installation that’s part of 10th edition of the UFO Festival in Poitiers, France.

Stoli Vodka Cypher Series Video

I was honoured to be asked to join the last round of DJs for this years’ Stoli Vodka Cypher Series.

For those of you that haven’t heard me play live (or at different venues) it gives you a little bit more insight to what else I play besides House Music.

It was a fun & very relaxing shoot (as you can see from my dancing) that wrapped up within an hour.

Be sure to check out the Stoli Vodka Canada YouTube channel for 2 more videos to be released soon by other DJs!

Take a listen and let me know what you think!

Track Of The Moment: Breakbot feat. Irfane – One Out Of Two

I’ve been bumping the Oliver remix of this track for a while now (it’s even featured in an episode of my “Lazy Sunday” podcast). It’s always good to get creative visuals to go along with good music. It stars French singer & actress Alka Balbir, who is also the wife of Gaspard Augé (of Justice fame).

The track is from his upcoming album “Buy Your Side” but you can buy the single now!

Check it out and let me know what you think!

Monome

Check out this highlight video from the L.A. Monomeet, presented by Interface LA.

What is the Monomeet you ask? All the artists in the video are utilizing the Monome to produce a live show. The Monome is a device that, when linked to a computer, can create grid/sampled based music (similar to the Yamaha Tenori-On, Akai APC40, or the Novation Launchpad). Some of the artists use other instruments alongside the Monome such as a guitar, the OP-1, or even singing along.

To find out more about Monome check out their website.
